Pour la première fois, un accouplement de gorilles face à face a été observé et photographié. Cela a eu lieu au Congo dans le cadre d’une recherche menée par l’Institut Max Plank.

En 1996, au Zoo Brookfield de Chicago, un enfant de trois ans tombe dans la fosse des gorilles. Binti Jua, une femelle, se précipite sur lui, le prend dans ses bras, fait fuir les mâles qui s’approchent trop de lui et attend la venue des secours humains…
