Il y a à peu près six mois, j’annonçais la publication en un volume cartonné de l’intégralité des œuvres de fiction de Lovecraft par Barnes and Noble pour un prix tout à fait modique. Je viens d’apprendre il y a peu grâce à l’excellent Crom ! que l’intégralité des textes consacrés par Robert Howard à son personnage le plus connu, Conan, avait déjà été réunie et publiée il y a trois ans, à l’occasion du centième anniversaire de sa naissance. Cela nous rappelle, en passant, qu’il est mort très jeune, en 1936. Heilein, né un an après lui, est mort en 1988, après tout, et encore a-t-il fallu un emphysème…

Là encore, nous parlons d’un gros livre cartonné commercialisé à un prix des plus compétitifs : 19,77 $ pour près de 950 pages ; et là encore, nous parlons d’un auteur que j’aime tout particulièrement. Cependant, des trois grands de Weird Tales, Robert Howard était de loin le moins négligé. Lovecraft l’était plus que lui et Clark Ashton Smith semble être un peu passé à la trappe — quelle misère ! J’espère que les éditeurs américains rempliront la lacune d’un volume commode et peu onéreux pour CAS.
