Tragedy struck on Friday the 13th of January 1939 - “Black Friday”, when a firestorm swept across Victoria. Millions of hectares burned and 71 people died.
The most powerful stories from that January come from the remote sawmilling communities living in the heart of these forests. They didn’t stand a chance.
