For context: A while back, Byron Merritt (Frank Herbert’s grandson) posted the following to a DUNE forum:

“We’re getting VERY close to a deal. Heard that news today,” he posted on Friday, following that up with, “Although only rumor, I’ve heard that “someone” at the studio wants Dune reallllly bad and has been a fan of the novel for “years.” They’re not saying who this is (and it might just be hype) but I’m holding out hope that whoever this might be is a big enough fan that he/she will do the book justice. Supposedly it’s some director.”

Intriguing.

Ce serait la Paramount qui continuerait, avec Dune, sa politique de franchises :

Selon les informations d’Ain’t It Cool News, le deal aurait été signé avec Paramount pour la production et Peter Berg pour la réalisation. Ce dernier s’est déjà illustré en réalisant des films dans des genres divers, du film de sport (Friday Night Lights en 2004) au très politique Royaume (qui sort à la fin du mois en France), en passant par le film d’action basique (Bienvenue dans la jungle, toujours en 2004).

Le film de Lynch n’a pas mérité tout le mal que l’on a dit de lui, même si certains choix ont été malheureux. Cependant, je ne crois pas que cette nouvelle version soit nécessairement mieux. Plus spectaculaire, sans doute, mais mieux, je ne pense pas. Le drame, au fond, c’est que la version Jodorowsky n’ait jamais vu le jour.
